My baby Zak! I am kind of in denial that you are two and a half... that is just...so...big! and I want you to stay my little baby forever. It is starting to feel too real that you aren't a baby anymore. You are such a toddler these days- today you took a tupperware straight from the dishwasher while it was still wet and stuck it on your head and walked around telling people about your hat for half an hour. you also got out your weight and copied some of my moves during my workout this morning. your sister asked if you loved her and you said, "No, mama!" and then giggled and giggled at her being offended. You are so funny! You keep us all laughing and no one can stay mad at you even when you break things or hurt people like toddlers are apt to do ;) You are also really quick to say sorry and you say it SO cute "oh. sowwy Nanny. Sowwy."
Your vocabulary has really exploded this past month- you've actually been pretty slow to talk (&who can blame you when you have so many siblings talking for you?) and I wasn't concerned, but I for sure was comparing you to your older siblings who were talking in sentences before 2 years old. but now we can't stop you- new words each day! and you say things soo cute. I took a video of you saying "Peanut butter" this morning. cutest!
You still love to "nee" and I'll let you keep going until 3 for sure. but I am trying to put limits around it- i don't love nursing you in public anymore or just all day all the time haha. first thing when you wake up, after nap and before bed are all good times and you usually find at least one other time in there ;)
you've started to sleep with your "Tita" every night! It started in Mexico- we went for a month and I didn't want to be co-sleeping with you because I knew that'd lead to you nursing all night and no sleep for me. so dad and I slept out in our studio and you slept with either Nanny or Tita each night and you loved it! so when we got home, we weren't sure how you'd do going back into your pack'n'play, but you started climbing out of it pretty quickly and didn't really like the crib...so into a big boy bed! and that just wasn't working- always climbing in with Ellie and no one getting enough sleep. so now most nights you head up at bedtime and you're sooo happy with it! Ita has been leaving early in the morning to go help Sammy and Ximena run their brand new restaurant and you just sleep in and come down when you wake. always in such a good mood and asking for "nee". i love it so much! you are really the happiest boy.
you're not nearly as picky about clothing as you used to be, but you still have strong preferences. you LOVE pockets and i always find lots of treasures in your pockets when i take off your jeans! overalls also have lots of pockets, so we'll do lots of those! you love your "ball hat" and "ball shirt"- timbers stuff! you love your "mimmy mouse boos" or your mickey mouse tennis shoes. that is what you're pickiest about- you really prefer those shoes and i'm not sure how you'll take it when you outgrow them! i am so glad you pretty much let me pick your clothes now- gone are the tantrums over train shirts!
you aren't always a great eater...but you sure love the snack drawer! i had to move all the candy out of there because you were tall enough to help yourself. you were never super naughty about it- like you always showed me and asked hahah what a good boy! but it was annoying because you'd throw a little fit when the answer was no. you often grab snacks right as i'm making dinner and get mad when i say no.. but i don't know where else to put the snacks soo guess we'll just live with it for now. you also love the bag with snacks in my purse- you know what it is and often bring it to me when we're out and about ha. you always want a snack right after church and i'm just such a sucker for you i usually say yes even when all the other kids are told no. pretty soon your days of being the baby will be over and we'll stop spoiling you so much...right? or will you always be the spoiled baby?
you're still super into trains! and it is a lot of fun. you got some battery powered trains for Christmas and you love them. "raar choo choo" for your dinosaur one! you like to set up tracks and one of the other kids will usually help you. you are also very into cars and often carry a few around with you. you call them "bye bye"s and it is the cutest. you also love the airplanes that Ita got you while we were in Mexico and repeat "up up up fly in the sky" and go "zshooooom" and fly them all around. you also pretend that you're a rocket ship and often put your arms back and zoom around too ;) you had a yoto card called "transportation songs" and you loooved that one with songs all about cars and trains and whatnot, but it is lost and you don't like listening to it on my phone nearly as much as having all the control with the yoto pushing buttons and taking the card in and out. hope we find it soon! you call it "bye bye la la" the best little baby talk!
June got a new kitten at the end of November and you've been looving him! His name is Avocado St. James III, but you call him "Chompy Meow Meow" and it is so fun. you often manhandle him and I am hopeful that all the abuse will make him the sweetest cat around who just loves to be held and petted! you love to get him food and chase him and play with him. it is so fun! the other cats are scared of you, so this one is obvs your fav! In Mexico, Johanna would play a game with you where I believe you were a baby sloth and she was mama or something and your name was "Chompy" and the name just stuck.
speaking of playing games- you love to play with your people! you often come grab my hand and say "You play!" and force me to come play with you ;) we do a lot of hide'n'seek, chasing, tickling, pretending to be cats, racing cars, you make me be a red truck and call me "Stinky" and you have a white car named "Dirty" based off your favorite tv show "Stinky and Dirty". you don't really do playing by yourself yet...unless you go off by yourself to poop and then you'll just lay there on your tummy forever until I come change you. but if i ask if you pooped, the answer is always "no poopoo me mama" mmmmhmm. stinker!
you pretty much refuse to potty train. i was so hopeful because we did a lot of the elimination communication. and before our MX trip, you were actually doing ok. we'd bought you training undies, but you didn't give a rats booty about peeing yourself and i got so tired of cleaning up pee and then my little steam cleaner broke and i gave up. and then our month long trip and we gave up on you using undies because it was just a joke and now we are full time back in diapers with zero effort on your part with using the toilet. in fact, you get quite angry if i ask you to sit on the toilet haha. oh well... come this spring/summer when it is warm enough, you'll be naked outside all the time ;) now Ellie is wiping her own butt, so I guess i'll miss seeing your little tiny butt once you're trained, but also i can't wait to be done with poopy diapers! i guess i have a few years of helping you wipe to look forward to ;) zeke and ellie both just overnight potty trained on their own out of nowhere...but june and jo took forever. i am anxious to see if you're in night diapers for much longer? the suspense!
you looooove to watch tv. you ask for your favorite shows all the time. all day long. you ask for "AJ" which means "Blaze and the monster machine" and "Stinky and Dirty" and "Paw Patrol" and "Puppy dog pals" and for a long time it was "Thomas and friends". you cry when we turn it off and we think you're overdue for a screen detox, but we enjoy the time when all the kids are on screens too much to do it yet haha. you love to watch on the projector in m&d's room too.
You started calling Johanna "Nanny" at some point and it has stuck. and we love it so much! you recently started saying "Anna" instead and Johanna will scold you and look mad and you'll say "Sorry, Nanny" and revert back to the nickname for a while haha. you have mastered everyone's names and maybe the cutest is the way you say "Grandma Sandee". we just love your little toddler ways.
lastly, you love to go to church because Johanna volunteers in your class every week. She tells us all about it and how you fight with a little boy named Isaiah over a toy house and how Camille refuses to hold hands with any boy but you. and how when lots of others are crying, you get super jealous when Johanna holds them. i think it is pretty special that you get to have her with you- you feel safe, she feels responsible. it is just the best!
anyway, there is a quick recap of you are 2.5. you are something special and we just adore you! you make our world so much brighter and funnier and we couldn't be more thankful that the Lord blessed our family with you, sweet Zakeus Allen! I love you forever and ever... xoxo mama
